Artwork
Created in my studio in East Sussex by floating Japanese inks on the surface tension of a expansive vat of water, the inks expand and transform as they travel across the water’s surface. At a particular, fleeting moment in time the inks are lifted from the water onto paper and allowed to dry. A freeze-frame from a whole sequence of action, these unique artworks are like photographs from an ancient time, long before photography existed, from an art-form that dates back to Shintoism. Every movement, every breath, even the humidity on the day is captured and forever held in the image. My work is a meditative collaboration between the water and myself as we dance together on the surface in the inks.
